Kaleidoscope
Like a rotating piece of glass in a kaleidoscope, I felt the conclusion of the summer reflected around me. Mirror images of the other, our colors danced and bounced together, forming never-ending waves into a fall of perpetual possibility.
Letting go of the notion of symmetry where there is none, I reflected beyond the scope of the cylinder that had encapsulated me for years. At once liberating and unsettling, I started from deep within, allowing the waves to wash through and out until they were no longer visible or directly felt.
There was a disassociation. The constituents were the same, but the substance had changed.
It was a matter of conservation.
The reaction of recomposition was one of love.
Externally, the new body resembled the old but internally, there had been a shift. The decay in the fall provided the compost necessary for re-birth.
Now, with each encounter I see a reflection of that which comes from the core, a core filled with self-appreciation. Projected on everything around it, it stabilizes its being in a way as never before, illuminating surfaces in ways previously unseen.
As the days become shorter and colder, as we retreat more into our homes and into ourselves, a need for this illumination is more important than ever. It is what connects us, keeps us warm, and prepares us for spring. So surround yourselves and others with it, and call it salvation.
